Sergeant Michael McLean has proudly called Naperville home since 1985. He attended District 204 schools—Brookdale Elementary, Hill Middle School, and Waubonsie Valley High School. After graduating, he went on to the University of Iowa, where he earned a B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Sociology. During his time at Iowa, he completed an internship with the Naperville Police Department, which helped shape the path of his future career. It’s also where he met his wife, Heather. They were married shortly after graduation and have built their life together here in Naperville. They have two amazing kids: a 17-year-old daughter and a 14-year-old son.

Early in his career, he worked in customer service and logistics roles with Electromotive/Electronic Data Systems and Nalco. In 2004, he achieved a long-standing goal when he was hired by the Naperville Police Department.

Over the years, he has served in a wide variety of roles within the department, including:

  • Patrol Officer
  • Patrol Tactical Unit
  • Field Training Officer
  • Road Evidence Technician
  • Special Response Team Operator
  • Water Recovery Diver
  • Full-Time In-House Instructor
  • Internship Coordinator
  • Recruitment Team Member

In 2021, he was promoted to Sergeant. Since then, he has had the privilege to lead in the following capacities:

  • Patrol Sergeant
  • Strategic Response Unit & K9 Sergeant
  • School Resource Officer and Social Services Sergeant

As both a lifelong resident and a parent, Sgt. Michael McLean is proud to serve the community that has played such a big role in his life, and he is committed to keeping it a great place for future generations.
