Description of Teen Volunteer Opportunities:

Our mentors come weekly to provide music lessons. During our sessions, we teach, play, listen, and laugh – not necessarily in that order. We currently use violins, violas, cellos, double bass, and piano for our lessons. We are also looking for musicians (groups/individuals) to do performances at the center.

All mentors must have a background check through the Department of Corrections. All minors require parent/guardian consent. All mentors must have evidence of Covid vaccination.

There are strict safety and security regulations for visitors at the Warrenville Youth Centers, and our volunteers are expected to follow those.

Are Volunteer Opportunities one time, ongoing, or both?

Both one-time and ongoing opportunities available

Minimum Age Requirement:

14 years

Skills or Experience Necessary:

We work with teens in the criminal justice system, so we require a mature musician with empathy and a respect for confidentiality. Also, interpersonal skills are important as we are interacting with many traumatized teens with mental health problems. Teaching experience is not a pre-requisite, however patience is, as often times, this may be the teens’ first experience with stringed instruments.
