Organization Mission:
Naperville Public Library nurtures lifelong learning, fosters community connections, and provides equitable access to diverse resources in a welcoming and inclusive environment.
Description of Volunteer Opportunities:
Teen Advisory Group (TAG) meetings are held once a month on a Monday for two hours (from 6-8pm) rotating between our three library locations. At meetings, teen volunteers provide valuable input on teen programs, services, and library materials. Meetings are divided up in two parts– the first hour is discussion-based (helping us plan programs, helping us select items for the collection, and similar activities), and the second half of our meeting is a more hands-on volunteer opportunity.
We also provide one-off volunteering dates where teens help with hands-on volunteer work. Examples include packing summer reading program prize kits, assembling craft kits, straightening shelves, and more.
Minimum Age Requirement:
6th Grade
Skills or Experience Necessary:
For our Teen Advisory Group, we look for teens who are interested in the library and can give feedback on how we can improve current teen services and create new teen services. Teens should be willing to engage in discussion. For TAG and one-off volunteering, we are looking for teens who are willing to learn new skills and are will productively participate in a variety of projects.
